February 2012 Microfinance Course Report
The Alliance Forum Foundation organized our fifth Financial Services for the Poor Professional Development Course course from February 2nd to 17th 2012 in Dhaka, Bangladesh in collaboration with BRAC Development Institute.
The course consisted of over 20 classes and lectures related to microfinance and financial inclusion, as well as, three days of field visits to a number of major MFIs in Bangladesh including BRAC, Safesave, ASA, and BURO. Participants on this February’s course hailed from a variety of professional backgrounds and nations including Cameroon, Denmark, Indonesia, Japan, and the United States. Below are a few impressions of the course from the people who participated:
"By participating in this course, I was able to develop a balanced understanding of both the theory and practice of microfinance from the front lines of the industry in Bangladesh."
"This course was a tremendous learning experience. It allowed me to gain valuable insight from both those providing financial services to low income populations in Bangladesh and the actual beneficiaries of these services."
"Outside of the classes and field visits, the course gave me the opportunity to discuss and review topics in microfinance with other course participants and develop deep friendships with them along the way."
