bracNet operates "e-huts" which provide access to the internet for people living in the remote corners of the country

Currently there are 38 e-hut franchises operating throughout the country and another 300 will be opened by next year. Eventually, bracNet aims to open more than 1,000 e-huts across the country. These rural business centers will help eradicate the digital divide and stimulate entrepreneurship.

Bangladesh - A Least Developed Country (LDC) -

バングラディシュ地図

130 of 192 member states of the United Nations are classified as developing countries. Within these 130 countries , 50 of them are classified as Least Developed Countries (LDC's). LDC's are countries that exhibit the lowest indicators of socioeconomic development. The United Nations determines this classification based upon the Human Development Index rankings of all of the UN members states.

A significant percentage of the population living in LDC's earn less than a dollar a day. Moreover, the people living in these countries suffer from high rates of illiteracy and infant mortality, as well as, problems associated with HIV infection and malaria. As a result, the improvement of educational and health infrastructure in these countries is an urgent priority.

Bangladesh is an ideal environment for new technologies given its recent growth and tremendous potential market. The bracNet project aims to first establish communications infrastructure and using this as a springboard, begin deploying next-generation technology to improve the overall quality of life for people living in Bangladesh.
