         WORLD ALLIANCE FORUM HELD IN SAN FRANCISCO

       

On November 15th the Alliance Forum Foundation organized the 2011 World Alliance Forum to commemorate of the 60th Anniversary of the San Francisco Peace Treaty at the Golden Gate Club in San Francisco.

Under the overarching theme of “Breakthrough Solutions for a New Era,” the November 15th forum brought together notable academic, business, and thought leaders to discuss a range of global topics including aging societies, energy and the environment, and new economic models. Speakers at the forum included Martin Brennan, the Executive Director of the International House at UC Berkeley and former U.S. Ambassador to Zambia and Uganda, George Hara, the Chairman of the Board of the Alliance Forum Foundation, Dr. Yoshimitsu Kobayashi, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation, Dr. Hiroshi Komiyama, the Chairman of the Institute, Mitsubishi Research Institute and President Emeritus of the University of Tokyo, and Dr. Richard Swanson, President Emeritus of SunPower Corporation.

Close to 200 participants attended the half-day forum which was followed by an evening reception organized by the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco.

We are pleased to announce that the next 'Financial Services for the Poor' professional training course will be held from April 22^nd  to  May 4^th 2011 in Bangladesh. This course brings together the experience of various microfinance institutions across Bangladesh and expert faculty. The course will be lead by Dr. Syed M. Hashemi, Director of the Development Institute of BRAC University and the Senior Microfinance Specialist of CGAP (Consultative Group to Assist the Poor). The course also includes lectures from leading practitioners from across the field of microfinance and will include extensive field visits.

On May 26th 2010 the Alliance Forum Foundation held the World Alliance Forum Zambia at the University of Zambia (UNZA) in Lusaka. The forum focused on creating new partnerships between the Japanese private sector and the Republic of Zambia. This event lasted from 4pm to 6pm on the campus of UNZA and included a formal inauguration ceremony for the launch of an advanced, real-time distance learning system connecting UNZA and Copperbelt University located 400 kilometers to the north of the forum.
