Human beings are the lifeblood of economic and social structures. The solution to development problems lies with the nurturing and development of human resources to meet the needs of developing countries and deploying these resources effectively. The International Organization (Japan/Asia) for WAFUNIF is committed to developing individuals who have a strong interest in developing countries by providing them with on the ground opportunities to leverage their skills and contribute to global development.

Now more than ever, there is an urgent need to discover and nurture personnel who possess an understanding of management, operations, technology, and finance and can actively contribute to development projects on the ground. The International Organization (Japan / Asia) for WAFUNIF is creating an organization to promote global exchange and address this need.

Most United Nations affiliated organizations are vertically structured,
WAFUNIF on the other is organized to unite organizations across the UN system.
| The World Association of Former United Nations Interns and Fellows (WAFUNIF), is an organization connecting former United Nations internes and fellows across 148 member countries. The organization was established at UN headquarters in New York in 1978 as a UN affiliated NGO under article 71. WAFUNIF activities are mainly focused on developing countries. |
The organization works to facilitate cross-organizational cooperation and interaction wit the United Nations system. Its activities seek to establish cooperative relationships with the private sector, academia, and local governments and act as a conduit for the dispatch of talented personnel to internships and training programs across the UN system.

WAFUNIF endeavors to make effective use of its worldwide network of former interns and fellows of the United Nations and its subsidiary organs to support developing countries in cooperation with the private sector and other actors.
WAFUNIF engages in cross-organizational cooperation and interaction with the UN system, particularly bodies having interns and fellows to encourage the maintenance and further development of internships, fellowships, and training programs within the UN system.
