World Alliance Forum Tokyo Roundtable (WAF Tokyo)

Since 1999, the Alliance Forum Foundation has been working to realize a public interest capitalist society by advocating the importance of management that takes a medium- to long-term perspective rather than placing too much emphasis on short-term profits, and by making policy recommendations and carrying out various other activities.
At the World Alliance Forum Tokyo Roundtable, we focus on global trends and changes in the social environment, discuss system reform, legal amendments, and the healthcare field, and each year propose strategies that we should undertake to realize public interest capitalism and expand it around the world.

2025 World Alliance Forum Tokyo Roundtable

[1] Improving nutritional status: Spirulina Project

There are still many areas in Africa where hunger is a serious problem.
There are two types of hunger problems: hunger caused by a lack of carbohydrates, and malnutrition caused by a lack of protein.
The Alliance Forum Foundation, in collaboration with the Zambian government, supported a project aimed at solving the problem of chronic malnutrition through the local production and consumption of spirulina, a protein-rich food native to Africa.

The world is currently facing the limits of capitalism.

A system in which only the wealthy few become wealthy deepens division and anxiety, and moves us further away from a sustainable society.

Based on the idea of "public interest capitalism," leaders from the government, business, and civil society gathered in Tokyo.

The purpose of this conference is to foster dialogue and action towards the realization of "capitalism that leaves no one behind."

Instead of the concentration of wealth, we need to move towards the circulation of value.

It is from this roundtable that a new economic vision for the future will begin.

In 2005, Bangladesh faced the challenge of a literacy rate of less than 50%, and it was difficult to establish schools and classrooms due to human and financial resources.

To address this issue, Bangladesh's largest NGO, BRAC, and DEFTA Partners jointly established bracNet, an internet communications company using WiMAX, to help create an environment where people can access education online from anywhere in the country.

The profits generated by bracNet are distributed as public services to over 22,000 educational institutions and over 3,000 medical and health care institutions. In 2008, the World Bank took notice and introduced the project as an ideal example of private sector support for developing countries.

[3. Commercialization (independence)] Microfinance

As mentioned above, the Alliance Forum Foundation's support for developing countries does not simply involve collecting donations from poor people and giving them to them, but aims to encourage them to use the money they have earned to do something useful for society. As a financial activity to provide business funds for self-reliance, the Alliance Forum Foundation has worked hard to popularize microfinance, which allows people to borrow even small amounts of money without collateral and at low interest rates.
