【特報】iPS細胞再生医療製品が世界初承認

2017年に澤芳樹大阪大学医学部教授とDEFTA Partners（原丈人代表、大阪大学医学部招聘教授兼任）が設立したクオリプス株式会社（Cuolips）が開発した、世界初のiPS細胞再生医療製品である心不全治療用心筋シートを厚生労働省が2026年2月19日付で承認した。

当初、出資を予定していた大阪大学ベンチャーキャピタルが投資を取りやめたことで、クオリプス株式会社（Cuolips）は窮地に陥った。

これに対し、原丈人がグループ会長を務めるDEFTA Partnersが、創業時に必要な資金、経営陣、本社事務所を提供したことで、同社は2017年に創業することができた。

さらに、香港のDEFTA Limitedからの出資と、日本のDEFTA Capitalチームの支援がなければ、クオリプス（Cuolips）の事業化は大きく遅れていたと考えられる。

その後、クオリプス（Cuolips）は、第一三共株式会社と戦略的事業提携を進め、2023年6月には東京証券取引所に株式を公開した。

厚生労働省の専門部会は2026年2月19日、iPS細胞を使った再生医療製品の製造販売を了承した。

今回承認された製品の一つは、重症心不全の治療を目的とする「リハート」であり、iPS細胞を用いた製品として世界初の実用化事例となる。

ノーベル賞受賞者で京都大学の山中伸弥教授が2006年に世界に先駆けマウスiPS細胞の作製に成功してから20年、いよいよ実用段階に入る。

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare subcommittee approved the practical application of a cardiac sheet for treating heart failure, the world's first iPS cell-based regenerative medicine product developed by Cuolips Inc. (founded in 2017 by Professor Yoshiki Sawa of Osaka University's Faculty of Medicine and DEFTA Partners, represented by George Hara, who also serves as Professor at Osaka University's Faculty of Medicine). DEFTA Capital, the Japanese Operation of DEFTA Partners, provided startup capital, a management team, and a headquarters office to Cuolips, which was struggling after the Osaka University Venture Capital withdrew its investment, allowing it to launch in 2017.

Ms.Kumachi and Mr. Matsuda played a key role during this period. Without investment from DEFTA Limited (Hong Kong) and the help of the DEFTA Capital(Japan) team, Cuolips' commercialization would have been significantly delayed. Cuolips subsequently entered into a strategic business partnership with Daiichi Sankyo and went public on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in June 2023.

BREAKING NEWS (February 19, 2026 21:06)

On the 19th, a specialized subcommittee of Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare approved the manufacture and sale of a regenerative medicine product using iPS cells. They will be used to treat severe heart failure. This marks the world's first practical application of iPS cell products. Twenty years after Nobel laureate Professor Shinya Yamanaka of Kyoto University pioneered the creation of mouse iPS cells in 2006, these therapies are finally entering practical application.

Approval was granted for “Reheart,” a cardiac muscle cell sheet for heart failure developed by Osaka University-spinoff startup Cuolips, co-founded by Prof. Yoshiki Sawa and DEFTA Partners led by Prof George Hara.
